Audra McDonald's talents are unmatched in the range and variety of her work in her roles as a performer, singer and actor. A record six-time winner at the Tony Awards, two Grammy Awards as well as an Emmy Award she received in 2015 from Barack Obama. She has a voice of unparalleled elegance and an aptitude for dramatizing truth Her roles in Broadway as well as in opera have the same aplomb as the roles in movies as well as on TV. Aside from her theater work she also enjoys a thriving career as an international music and concert performer. She was born into a musical family. McDonald grew up living in Fresno California and received her classical vocal training at the New York's Juilliard School. One year after graduation, McDonald received the Tony Award Best Performance for an Actress in Musical Lead at Carousel in the Lincoln Center Theater. In the following four years, she won two more Tony Awards for the category of a featured actress. In 2014 she made Broadway history, becoming an official Tony Awards most decorated performer when she won six awards for her performance as Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill the role that also served as the stage for her Olivier Award nominated debut performance on London's West End. Along with setting the record as the most awards in a competition category by an actor, she also became the first actor to receive awards in the four acting categories. Her credits in the theatre include The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (993) Henry IV (2004) and 110 in the Shade (707). Twelfth Night marked McDonald's Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut. Shuffle Along is the Making of the Musical Seduction in 1921 and the Drama That Followed. Frankie Johnny in the Clair de Lune. and Ohio State Murders. McDonald was first introduced to the public via television as a dramatic actress by Peabody Award winning CBS's Having Our Say the Delany Sisters first 100 years. After starring with Kathy Bates, Victor Garber and other actors in the highly famous Disney/ABC version of Annie in 1999, McDonald appeared as a recurring character in NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit. McDonald received her debut Emmy for her performance on her role in the HBO adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize winning play Wit directed by Mike Nichols, starring Emma Thompson. In 2003, she returned to television, this time in Mister Sterling produced by Emmy Award-winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr., with Josh Brolin. In 2006, McDonald appeared on WB's The Bedford Diaries. The following year, she became a recurring actor on NBC's Kidnapped. McDonald received a fourth Emmy for her portrayal of Lady Day in Emerson's Bar & Grill, which aired on HBO in 2016. The Bite was a six episode drama about pandemics produced in collaboration with Spectrum Originals in collaboration with CBS Studios. McDonald was first seen in the CBS legal drama The Good Wife as U.S. attorneys Liz Lawrence and Liz Reddick from 2009 until 2018. She reprised her roles (now named Liz Reddick) in The Good Fight as the Paramount+ season regular. McDonald was nominated to win Three Critics Choice Award awards. She's currently appearing as guest on Julian Fellowes' historical drama The Gilded Age.
